This is the third year I have spent Labor Day weekend in Galena, Illinois. While I have been to Ulysses Grant's home before, we decided to make a return visit as we were with friends who had not been there before. The home has been restored and most of the furnishings are original to the Grant's. Sad to think that he had such a major influence in our nation only to die penniless. Galena has a very rich history otherwise as well and has many beautiful homes and buildings and a rolling landscape.

It is hard to believe it has been four years since I had the opportunity to travel to Italy and take in the beautiful sites of Florence, Rome, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast. I dream of going back again. The sights and history that I took in will forever be etched in my mind. Any time now I go to an art show or reflect back through my own photos from this great adventure it makes me want to go back again and again. This time to spend more time in Tuscany and Amalfi Coast and maybe less time in Rome.
